Elmer W. Naffien
..... age 85, was received into the Church Triumphant on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Saginaw Covenant Harrison following a brief illness.
He was born May 27, 1928 in Linkville, son of the late August and Emma (Bock) Naffien.
He was united in marriage to Eleanor Brady on August 24, 1985. They had resided in Caseville and later moved to Sebewaing.
Elmer had worked on the family farm until he was 15 when he began working for Elkton Lumber Company, making tiles and building houses.
At age 29 he was one of 23 men drafted from Huron County leaving together to Camp McCoy in Wisconsin where he served 2 years as an Army Sergeant cook during the Korean Conflict.
He was a builder and general contractor in the Thumb area for six decades before retiring May of 2013. Elmer took great pride in working for the McIntyres of Monroe Shock Absorbers and Bill Young of Absopure Water Company for many years.
Elmer was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor, Sebewaing; 2 daughters Diane Naffien, Midland; Karyn (Brian) Randall, West Branch; (daughters of Patricia Quick) stepchildren, Carol Haag, Caro; Dennis (Judy) Haag, Lenox Twp, MI; Curt (Marla) Haag, Adel, GA; Linda (Arthur) LaForest, Cass City; grandchildren, Matt, Nate, Kaitlin Randall, step-grandchildren, Vicki Crumby, Sam, Ryan, Adam, Christopher Haag, Brian Nieschulz, Gail Wilkinson and Philip Nieschulz. Sisters, Alma Harder, Bay Port, Mabel Herman, Sebewaing; also great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Naffien, brothers, John, Albert and Walter Naffien; sisters, Clara Kipfer, Lillian McGathy, Helen Samsack and Dorothy Dufty.
