Older Wiser Lutherans

OWLs are members of Immanuel age 55 and over. They are young at heart "seniors" - Christian folk who give a hoot! No business meetings, officers or dues. Come join in the fun and fellowship!

The Epistle to the Galatians is the ninth book of the New Testament.  Inspired by the Holy Spirit, it was written by the Apostle Paul to a number of early Christian communities in the Province of Galatia.

It was the clear distinction of the Gospel of Christ in contrast to the divine Law which was instrumental in shaping the life and teaching of Martin Luther.  It was from Bible letters like Galatians and Romans that gave rise to the strength of the Lutheran Reformation.

A study of Galatians is therefore especially fitting as we draw near to the 500th anniversary of the Reformation this October.

Pastor Reed will explore the Book of Galatians at Wednesday AM Bible class, beginning in September.

Class meets in the Great Room, from 9:30-10:30. You are welcome to attend.

OWLs Events

The schedule of activities for 2017-2018 has been printed and is available for you in your church mailbox. This is your invitation to plan for the coming year,  and mark on your calendar any or all of the activities you wish to participate in. We hope to see you often,….participating, volunteering, enjoying the fellowship.

Our 20l7-18 year is in full swing. We kicked off on July ll with “caroling” at two care facilities in Essexville, followed by a visit to see the special church art at Grace Lutheran, Fairgrove. A great day for the twelve who were able to go.

Thanks to those who volunteered at the welcome tables at the recent Sebewaing Country Market and Musicfest. The Lord continues to offer us opportunities to serve his Church in diverse ways. Here are two more coming up this month:

l. Sunday, September 17:
Introducing a fresh Inreach/Outreach to those who need cheer; we call it Immanuel Cares. Pastor David Reed and others will challenge us to get involved. Program and light supper will begin at 4:30 pm in the Great Room. Fellowship, food, freewill.

2. Tuesday, September 24: 4- 7 pm.
Our 4"‘ annual Scooping Event for HOPE SEEDS, INC. This fun service event is not only for OWLs. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Guests are also welcome to join us. For more about Hope Seeds, contact any member of the Older Adults Ministry committee or visit www.hopeseeds.org.

Members of Immanuel OAM committee are:
Richard Wrobleski, Pastor Bahr, Barbara Neuman, Fran Davis, Erma Rummel and DoulgForsberg. Others very much involved in the Hope Seeds event include Vic & Kathy Engelhardt and Pastor Reed.
