Hope Seeds Scooping Event
Immanuel hosted their 5th annual HOPE SEEDS scooping event on Tues, Sept 25.  Seventy people, young and older, were on hand to pack cabbage seeds, along with Scripture. In a 2-hr time period, they packed 6940 packets! According to CEO Mike Mueller and wife, Jean, those packets have a US retail value of $20, 820, and has the potential to produce over one million lbs of cabbage nutrition! We also gave a monetary donation to Hope Seeds: $580.50. The seeds will be sent to any of 60 countries where Hope Seeds, Inc has a presence, notably Haiti and Africa.

The Older Adults Ministry committee was in charge of the planning of the event. With the help of the $250 gift card from Thrivent Financial (Thrivent Action Team), we were able to treat our volunteers to a sloppy joe supper with all the trimmings, as well as some nifty giveaways, including LIVE GENEROUSLY t-shirts. Local rep, Ron Guinther, supplied us with free cups, napkins, and placemats.

Volunteers ranged in age from 8 (Dustin K) to 94 (Ethel L and Pastor Bahr). Eight were age 14 and under. Thirty were first-time packers! Sixteen came from outside Immanuel: from Lapeer, Unionville, Bach, Bay City, Sand Point, Fairgrove, and Lehigh Acres, FL.

HOPE SEEDS, INC will celebrate 20 years of ministry come this winter. We have counted it a privilege and joy to have lent our support for the past five years. This year’s event was truly an intergenerational experience and a generous mission outreach event. As one of our faithful workers said, “May God bless the seeds.”

More than a catchy slogan or an eye-catching banner hanging in the Great Room hallway. Each individual has a role in caring for one another. But we are not alone in this: Immanuel, Himself, leads us. We get support from others as we work on boards, committees, in organizations and school-related groups, prayer chains, and so much more. As a member of the body of Christ, what will you do to be the eyes, ears, feet, mouthpiece, etc as you seek to fulfill your role as God’s chosen child?
